"Then what is the use of repining
For where there's a will, there's a way,
And tomorrow the sun may be shining,
Although it is cloudy today."

And as they sang, the fear and the suffering of the long, cold winter seemed to rise like a dark cloud and float away on the music. Spring had come. The sun was shining warm, the winds were soft, and the green grass growing.
The Long Winter, Laura Ingalls Wilder

Aaah, we just finished this book and were happy to read that the Ingalls family did not end up starving or freezing to death during the winter of 1880-1881......though it seemed very likely.

How dare I complain about winter being too long or dreary around here!

Okay, I thought I was surely the only person my age currently reading the Little House series. I have read them all for the first time in the past 6 months. I know you have the excuse that you're reading it to your kids...but, hey, I'm pregnant. And they are really good books.
The longest winter was unbelievable. So many blizzards!

Those were my favorite books growing up...AND I have to say, it was a good thing to hear those words as our snow piles have again grown to multiple feet high after these last few days. Laura's giving me hope that one day, it will be spring again! Please, please let it be soon!!!

I always read these books in the opposite season. So it was always August reading this one, and then Little House on the Prairie around now. Way to make a kid wistful for other seasons.

My favorite thing about having children is experiencing "children's books" as an adult. There is so much more to them than I ever remembered. I loooooove the Little House series. They had such deep character back then. Life was so much harder yet they were so happy.

I enjoy reading the books as much or more than the kids.

I heart Laura Ingalls Wilder. With 5 nieces, those books are a staple in our family.

Sunday-The books are 1000% better than the show. In fact, I wish I had never watched it because I think it distorts the pictures in my mind of the characters.

You will have to read them to BellaRose in a few years! You'll both love them.

Those books are awesome. What a family, maybe I should reread them too so that I can gain some perspective.
